My name is Charlotte Silver and I'm not one of those paranormal-obsessed freaks you see on TV…no, those would be my parents, who have their own ghost-hunting reality show. And while I'm usually roped into the behind-the-scenes work, it turns out that I haven't gone unnoticed. Something happened on my parents' research trip in Charleston—and now I'm being stalked by some truly frightening other beings. Trying to fit into a new school and keeping my parents' creepy occupation a secret from my friends—and potential boyfriends—is hard enough without having angry spirits whispering in my ear. But that's probably because this is geared for the younger side of YA, maybe upper middle grade? Also, Charlotte didn't have much of a personality. I kept searching for a character flaw or something that made her unique apart from her parents' occupation, but couldn't find one. My name is Rose. It’s a pleasure to meet you. We are now entering minute two of our friendship. According to my Intimacy Clock, a handshake is now appropriate…"<br /><br />David and Charlie are opposites. David has a million friends, online and off. Charlie is a soulful outsider, off the grid completely. But neither feels close to anybody. When David’s parents present him with a hot Companion bot to encourage healthy bonds and treat "dissociative disorder," he can’t get enough of luscious red-headed Rose — and he can’t get it soon. Companions come with strict intimacy protocols, and whenever he tries anything, David gets an electric shock. Severed from the boy she was built to love, Rose turns to Charlie, who finds he can open up, knowing Rose isn’t real. With Charlie’s help, the ideal "companion" is about to become her own best friend.<br />In a stunning and hilarious debut, John Cusick takes rollicking aim at internet culture and our craving for meaningful connection in an uber-connected world.</span></i></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 18px; font-family:georgia, serif;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></i></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 18px; font-family:georgia, serif;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></i></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 18px; font-family:georgia, serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Basically, this concept sounds both hilarious, genius, and plain old addicting. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 18px; font-family:georgia, serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 18px; font-family:georgia, serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Me want. It looks more like a comic book than an actual novel. I assume the two characters on the cover are Bella and Edward, and if so, they're not accurately portrayed. I love the contrast of the red lips and rosy cheeks to the porcelain skin, and because of these features it's not necessarily Bella. Hands down. It was a cute, breezy, fast summer read, following the events of Madeline after her boyfriend of two years moves away. She's in the popular crowd, until she's roped into helping give misfits a makeover. She, of course, has motivation for doing so: they are paying her $400, which is enough to afford a one-way ticket to California, where her boyfriend, Thom now lives.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;">One thing that Melissa Senate excelled at was character development. Madeline's attitude change throughout the book was so well thought-out and so well paced. Her reasons for changing were completely legit, and they happened at a realistic pace. Well done.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;">Unfortunately, the YA voice was not up to par. The characters were in their sophomore year of high school, but acted much younger. Maybe it was in part because Madeline and her four amigos were truly convinced that every girl in California wore bikinis to school, or how Madeline would freak if Thom didn't text her back, or the lack of swearing. Actually, there was no swearing. Which was weird. As much as adults deny it, teenagers have really foul mouths. The characters in this book would say "beyotch" (I'd spell it biotch, but that's not a big deal) instead of "bitch." So, the YA voice was not a true, realistic depiction.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;">Still, The Mosts was a tender and sweet tale of Madeline's high school drama. I recommend it to anyone in search of a quick, breezy, and delightful summer read.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:130%;color:#444444;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" line-height: 22px;font-size:15px;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(68, 68, 68); line-height: 22px; font-size:15px;"><b>Grading:<br /></b></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(68, 68, 68); line-height: 22px; font-size:15px;">1. It's been forever since I've written-- school has been hectic and exhausting and stupid-- but as of yesterday I am not longer a freshman, but a sophomore. School is out, and I have all summer to write. So I started up again today. <div><br /></div><div>It's addicting. <div><br /></div><div>The love of my WIP Damaged is my drug. </div><div><br /></div><div>It's addicting, but really difficult. Much harder than Blue Abyss was to write. Blue Abyss taught me how to write a book, and now I'm applying that knowledge to Damaged but taking it a step further: I want to make Damaged powerful and gut wrenching. And I'm confident that I can do it. I am incorporating so much of my own emotion that it literally hurts for me to write, because it's forcing me to address a lot of things I've tried to forget about, namely pain. </div><div><br /></div><div>I can't wait to see how this turns out. Like Kesha says, "I just can't get you off my mind." Damaged is with me to stay. </div><div><br /></div><div><a href="http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/keha/yourloveismydrug.html">Here</a> are the lyrics to "Your Love is My Drug." Completely accurate to my feelings about Damaged.</div><div>So. Do you have a WIP that could be applied to this song?</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); line-height: 27px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><i></i></span></span><blockquote><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;color:#333333;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 27px;"><i><br /></i></span></span></span></span></blockquote></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" white-space: pre; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><object width="580" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QR_qa3Ohwls&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f&border=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QR_qa3Ohwls&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="580" height="360"></embed></object></span></div><div><br /></div></div>bclement412http://www.blogger.com/profile/05104255054978064868noreply@blogger.com5
